SC associate justice steps down after 3 months

THREE months. That’s all that Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla could serve at the Supreme Court as she chose to step down due to health reasons.

Baltazar-Padilla, who was appointed as SC Associate Justice three months ago, should be retiring in 2028.

In an announcement, the Supreme Court granted her application for disability retirement. SC did not elaborate.

Prior to her SC stint, Baltazar Padilla was an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals for 14 years.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to appoint soon a new magistrate to fill her post. Since Duterte became President, he has already appointed 11 Justices, including SC chief justice Diosdado Peralta, for the high tribunal.
