Motorcycle barrier rules eased under stricter GCQ

By Fernan Angeles

Motorcycle barriers will no longer be required under the general community quarantine (GCQ) provided that the driver and the back rider can prove that they live under the same roof.

Joint Task Force COVID shield chief Guillermo Eleazar said that back-rider must also be an authorized person outside of residence (APOR) while the driver may or may not be an APOR. Both riders must also wear full-face helmets and face masks. The motorcycle must also be privately owned and not for hire.

Some married couples and riders have previously opposed the requirement for a barrier between motorcycle drivers and back-riders to prevent coronavirus transmission.

Metro Manila and other provinces have been reverted GCQ from August 19 to August 31.
