METRO Manila mayors are inclined on keeping the general community quarantine classification, at least until the end of the year.
According to Metro Manila Council chairperson and incumbent Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, all the local chief executives in the region unanimously agreed on the idea of having their respective localities under GCQ, the third of the four-level quarantine classifications that the government is imposing in the wake of the global pandemic caused by the highly infectious virus from Wuhan, China.
Under this quarantine level, businesses are allowed to operate. Public transportation is also allowed but on a limited passenger capacity.
The mayors agreed that keeping the GCQ classification in the national capital region would significantly help prevent the spread of the virus among local folks.
The council earlier unanimously adopted a resolution restricting the conduct of Christmas parties, caroling and other forms of gathering seen to trigger a new contamination of the coronavirus strain that has so far infected some 426,000 individuals.
Olivares said that they would submit their recommendation to the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 for the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte.
