CAMP PRES. QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur — Police authorities are digging deep into an accidental discovery of explosives and high-powered assault rifles by a farmer in Cabugao town.
Police report said Marcelino Morales, a farmer in Brgy. Cacadiran, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur was then on his way to the forested area in barangay Quezon when he accidentally discovered one hand grenade and three rifle grenade launchers.
The incident compelled the farmer to immediately report to Cabugao PNP, which promptly dispatched a team from its explosive ordnance division for the proper retrieval of the deadly live grenades.
Police said the explosives are now under the custody of said PNP Cabugao for proper documentation.
Last month, Police Brigadier General Rodolfo S Azurin Jr., PNP Regional Director, reported that former Cabugao Mayor Josh Edward Cobangbang together with Atty. Arvin Manibo Manaois, 28, and Engr. Crescencio Concepcion Marcos, 52, surrendered to the police at Police Regional Office 1, Camp Florendo, Parian, City of San Fernando, La Union for Serious illegal detention in what some believe as politically motivated.
In past elections, this town was categorized as political hot spot due to intense political rivalry.
