Ecleo goes to Bilibid

A WEEK after he was arrested, former Dinagat Congressman Ruben Ecleo Jr., who was found guilty of murdering his wife, goes to where convicted persons are billeted – at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag said they were informed that Ecleo will be brought to the national penitentiary any time today.

Ecleo was arrested in Pampanga last week, years after he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife, who was found decomposing in a ravine in January 2002.

He and his driver were brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City last July 30.

Ecleo, the leader of Dinagat-based cult Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, was also previously convicted of graft over an allegedly anomalous construction project when he was mayor of San Jose town in Surigao del Norte from 1991 to 1994. (Ruben Ecleo Jr. image courtesy of ABS-CBN).
