Cops bust gun-running syndicate

COMBINED elements from the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Coast Guard intercepted on Saturday what was tipped off as a truck-load of guns at the Danao Port in Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

Arrested was truck driver Juanito Chua of La Carlota City.

The information almost turned out as more of a “live wire” as members of the local police, the Highway Patrol Group, and the coast guards in Negros Occidental, were only to recover eight short firearms.

Police Captain Robelito Mariano, Negros Occidental Police Highway Patrol Group, said that the truck carrying essential goods from Cebu City was intercepted after a weeks of surveillance on what was earlier referred to as a done deal embarking on a gun-running syndicate’s plan to dock bulks of firepower in the city for distribution to other parts of the country.
