THE most recent gang war at the National Bilibid Prison facility in Muntinlupa City has resulted in the death of four inmates and injuring 64 others, says the Department of Justice.
The riot at the New Bilibid Prison’s maximum security compound on Monday compelled authorities to impose measures, which include putting up an infrastructure that would separate members of the Sigue-sigue Sputnik and the Commando.
In a message to newsmen, Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said inmates have also been grounded and strictly confimed inside their respective dormitories.
The incident of violence last Monday took place exactly one month after a riot between the same two gangs killed nine inmates.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, who has jurisdiction over the NBP has already ordered a probe, which would determine the cause and the possible culpable responsibility of the NBP officials.
Part of the investigation would also make a closer look at a video which showed two men being carried out of the prisoners’ quarters while uniformed officers arrived at the scene. Gunshots were also heard in the same video.
NBP said that visitation rights remain in place.
