Another PhilHealth official resigns

By Fernan Angeles

AS if the troubles and ongoing investigations ain’t enough for the government insurance corporation, another top official of the embattled Philippine Health Insurance Corporation tendered his irrevocable resignation today, August 6.

In a one-page letter addressed to PhilHealth Board of Directors thru its Vice Chairman Ricardo Morales, Senior Vice President Augustus de Villa, a retired Brigadier General, tendered his irrevocable resignation, taking effect “immediately.”

He, however, assured that he would actively take part in the ongoing investigation conducted by Malacañang, and respond to subpoenas issued by the Senate for the ongoing hearings.

“Be assured that I will make myself available for the ongoing investigations in aid of legislation in both Houses of Congress of the Philippines,” reads his brief letter of resignation.

PhilHealth is under investigation over allegations of massive corruption at the agency. Former anti-fraud division chief lawyer Thorsson Keith hinted that a mafia operating in the state insurer agency was able to rake in some P15 billion in public funds through a variation of schemes.
