DAYS after the video of her beating a 51-yeasr old household helper at the diplomatic residence in Brazil went viral, former Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro is back in the country.
The Department of Foreign Affairs, which recalled Mauro, made the confirmation. It has likewise issued an official statement as to how the agency would be handling the case – “The DFA stands by its resolve to respond to the matter in accordance with and to the fullest extent of the law.”
Mauro’s alleged acts of abuse were repeatedly caught by CCTV cameras installed inside the diplomatic residence.
Mauro’s helper, a 51-year old Filipina from South Cotabato, returned to the Philippines way ahead of the former envoy.
Aside from the DFA’s created team to investigate Mauro, several labor organizations have also expressed their intention to file a case against her.
Mauro has yet to issue a statement since her return.
