THE re-opening of the Boracay Island doesn’t seem enough to get the world-famous white sand beaches of Boracay jumpstart economic activities in Aklan.
As such, the provincial government took radical steps if only to attract tourists to consider visiting the island, which for many years was considered among the best tourist destinations.
In a meeting with tour operators and establishments in Boracay, Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, hinted at an irresistible offer. He said tourists can get up to 75-percent discount in room rates in Boracay, which reopened last week.
Miraflores cited tour operators and establishments for the cooperation adding that what remains of the usual costs would only be enough to offset the cost for coronavirus tests, which tourists are required to take before visiting the resort island.
Boracay on Oct. 1 reopened to tourists from across the country after initially welcoming only travelers from Western Visayas.
The resort island in 2019 closed for 6 months to give way to a rehabilitation of its sewage system. It reopened in October 2019, only to be shuttered again by the pandemic last March
