BATAAN – The dreaded coronavirus logged the highest number of infected in last two days, infecting 239 individuals in the province.
In his report, Governor Abet S. Garcia said that on September 12, Bataan recorded a total of 183, the highest number of infected in a single day since the onset of COVID-19 in mid-March. The next day, another 56 individuals got infected, bringing to 239 the number of infected in a matter of two days.
The total casualty has reached 25, while the total number of COVID-19 positives is pegged at 1,692.
Most of the infected were from Mariveles, the most thickly-populated town in Bataan and site of the Freeport Area of Bataan.
Of the 17,393 persons tested for the virus, Garcia said that 15,368 tested negative.
The total number of infected nationwide is 261,216 as of September 13 while the number of casualties reached 4,371, making the country the biggest number of infected in Southeast Asia.
In their bid to control the spread of the virus, the provincial chief executive and Mayor Jo Castańeda placed nine barangays in Mariveles under total lockdown for 14 days.
Placed under localized lockdown were barangays Balon Anito, Camaya, Ipag, San Isidro, Malaya, Maligaya, Poblacion, San Carlos and Sisiman.
