TAKING cue from President Rodrigo Duterte’s most recent statement hinting at the need for the government to focus on COVID-19 response, the Congressional committee on constitutional amendments assured that there will no longer be any discussions on charter change, at least until after January next year.
Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, who chairs the House of Representatives’ committee on constitutional amendments, said they’ll just meet in January or February 2021 so it could focus on pandemic response and budget deliberations.
In July, Rodriguez announced that his panel would convene within the first two weeks following President Rodrigo Duterte’s penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA) to discuss the charter change proposals of over 1,400 mayors in the country.
But exactly a month after Duterte’s SONA, the committee has yet to convene.
