‘Stricter’ GCQ for NCR begins

By Fernan Angeles

A DOWNGRADE in the quarantine protocol for the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining provinces is not what many thought it is.

After the announcement downgrading NCR and the provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan and Rizal to general community quarantine (GCQ) effective today, Aug. 19, the government hinted at a much strict imposition of the quarantine protocols.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the implementation would in fact be far more strict than what the people have seen in the last few months.

The National Task Force on COVID-19 decided to approve the suggestion of Metro Manila mayors to revert to the “original” GCQ with more restrictions on businesses like gyms, internet cafes, dine-in restaurants, and salons.

“When we consulted the mayors they were in agreement that it should be GCQ but it should be of the strict type similar to what was imposed in June when we first went on GCQ,” said Roque in a television interview.

Roque laid down new rules under the ‘stricter’ GCQ.

• 8PM-5AM curfew for NCR
• Restricted operation of gyms, internet cafes, tutorial and review centers, personal aesthetics and grooming services, pet grooming services.
• LGU’s option on maximum capacity for dine-in in restaurants, salons
• Only mass gatherings of up to 10 people allowed, including religious services
• Pillion riding without barriers allowed provided driver and back-rider live under one roof provided both wear helmets or face masks and face shields
