DepEd urged to defer school year to a much later date

By Fernan Angeles

NOT even a two-month suspension won’t be enough to get a system in place for a blended learning system, said a youth organization as it called for a deferment of classes covering the school year 2020 – 2021.

In a statement, the Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK) described the recent announcement for the postponement of the opening of classes by the Department of Education (DepEd) as an admission of the agency’s inability to get things done on time.

As such, the group asked the government to seriously consider a deferment of classes in the entire archipelago to a much later date that the October 5 schedule earlier announced by Malacañang.

In the same statement, SPARK also belied their government claims of being ready for the blended learning system, following reciprocal reports over the past months from both students and school personnel all over the country.

“It is our belief that the one month and a half postponement shall only strengthen the facade of their unpreparedness and further give the impression that the DepEd stands correct that the nation is ready for their untested and haphazard blended learning schemes,” the statement read.
