MARIVELES, Bataan – Two fishermen from Naic, Cavite whose fishing boat was sunk by big waves along the shark-infested high seas here were rescued by alert security personnel of the Karpa Security agency last Sunday.
Rescuers described both fishermen – Bovit Jandog and John Pual Layson – as weak, tired and hungry after they floated along the dangerous high seas off this town.
Mayor Jocelyn P. Castańeda immediately rushed to see the two men at the town’s PNP station. She also provided food and clothes to the fishers.
Col. Ronald Almirol said that on Sunday afternoon, Karpa Security personnel of Talaga Detachment headed by M/Sgt John Casignia, (retired) rescued the two fishermen after their small fishing boat broke down and sunk by big waves caused by typhoon Enteng.
Luckily, the two, despite being battered by big waves, were able to swim until they reached the Mariveles area. The two were spotted and rescued by KARPA guards who heard them crying for help.

The guards fed the two initially and later through the instruction of Col. Benito Doniego, Jr., Commander of Karpa, they were turned over to Mayor Castańeda and Col Almirol.
Mayor Castańeda, who was then personally monitoring the aftermath of the typhoon in the town, arranged the sending of the fishermen back to Cavite.
KARPA has existing memorandum of agreement with the municipality of Mariveles through MDRRMO to extend help on emergency and disasters when exigency demands.
Some of the guards have undergone ARMY RESERVE and WASR training, it was learned.
