WITH just a few weeks left, the search for the next Philippine National Police chief is now down to three top generals, including Metro Manila’s top cop, who was dragged over the controversial “mañanita” birthday bash inside the regional camp last May.
Aside from National Capital Regional Police Office chief Major General Debold Sinas, Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar has also been reported to be a likely replacement for the top PNP post when PNP chief General Archie Gamboa retires two weeks from now.

Interestingly, both are from Philippine Military Academy Hinirang Class of 1987.
Eleazar is currently the PNP Deputy Chief for Operations and concurrent chief of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield.

However, a less popular Lieutenant General Camilo Cascolan looms as the next to be named new top cop, citing his seniority over Sinas and Eleazar. Should Cascolan be named to fill in the vacancy that would be left behind by Gamboa’s retirement, the former would only have less than three months as he is set to retire November.
